Lipan is located about 19 miles northwest of Granbury or 26 miles southwest of Weatherford. The city of Lipan is located in the northwest corner of Hood County, But Lipan ISD spreads over Hood, Parker, Erath and Palo Pinto Counties! Lipan is a community with strong agricultural history and still today many family farms and ranches still exist. As you drive around Lipan you’ll find fertile land surrounded by one of the many creeks that run through the area. On Highway 4 in the downtown area of Lipan you’ll find a bank, donut shop, gas station and several small retailers and service providers. The community is well-known for its prominent high school basketball program several state championships in boys and girl’s basketball! The Ag Program is also recognized as an excellent program around the area and throughout the state. The school and school programs are most certainly the center of this small town with robust attendance at all events, and a history of very strong financial support for whatever needs the school and kids may have. Currently the community is predominantly populated outside of the city limits with area residents living on larger tracts and ranches, but today several smaller tract communities beginning to develop. More of these types of communities are expected in the years to come as many people continue to seek smaller communities and smaller school to raise their families while maintaining a reasonable drive back into the larger cities.
