Stephenville is the county seat of Erath County, the largest city in the county, and also home to Tarleton State University (which is part of the Texas A&M University System). Stephenville is home to some of the most notable cowboys in Pro Rodeo. There are many superlatives that make Stephenville one of the most desirable communities in the region! Stephenville is located at the intersection of three major US Highways…US-377, US-281 and US-67. US-377 runs almost 500 miles from Del Rio, TX to Stroud, OK. US-281 runs more than 1,800 miles from Brownsville, TX and then crossing five other states before ending at the Canadian border! US-67 runs more than 1,500 miles from Presidio, TX to Sabula, IA. These important access corridors are a big part of what makes Stephenville so convenient for many of the industries that call it home. One can reach most of the middle American states as well as Mexico and Canada via direct access thanks to these US Highways that run through the city. Additionally, on a more local side the city is only about 70 miles southwest of Fort Worth making all the D/FW Metroplex easily accessible as well. Stephenville’s local economy also benefits from its position as the commercial epicenter for the county. About 20,000 reside in Stephenville, but with more than 10,000 Tarleton State University faculty, staff and students also in town most of the year the consumer population balloons well past that population. Around half of the population of Erath County resides in Stephenville, with the balance living in the many small towns that surround… Dublin, Morgan Mill, Huckabay, and Lingleville to name a few! Stephenville is full of Small-Town Texas Charm but also has a large variety of retail, food, and service businesses available. Its school district is known as a Texas High School Football Powerhouse with Five (5) State Championships to their credit with several former players even making it to the NFL! The proliferation of some of the most notable movers and shakers in Pro Rodeo to live in Stephenville certainly helps support its claim to be the “Cowboy Capital of the World.” It also brings with it robust levels of ancillary support for those who enjoy rodeo lifestyle, western heritage, and all things equine. You will be very hard pressed to find a better location to pursue these passions than Stephenville, Texas with every form of opportunity and service provider at your fingertips and a community full of like-minded individuals to enjoy camaraderie with.
